2012 Nourish Garden Application Form

The goals of the Nourish’s Community Garden at FVCC are to:

  • Provide community garden space
  • Build a sense of community surrounding local food
  • Create a space for garden-based education and FVCC academic overlap
  • Promote sustainable gardening practices such as organic gardening and on-site composting
  • Share produce with community food banks and local youth programs.
  • Provide a beautiful place on campus for FVCC students, faculty, and community members to enjoy .
This third season, we will offer raised beds (composted and ready to plant) on lottery to the community. The lottery will open March 1st, 2012.

NTF is using a lottery system for this third season to select new gardeners for the FVCC Community Garden. Signing up is simple – just follow these steps:

  1. Fill out an application,  2012 Nourish Garden APPLICATION form
  2. Nourish the Flathead will contact you on or before April 13th, 2012 to let you know if you got a plot – we are using a lottery system for our remaining plots this year.
  3. If you did get a plot, please show up at the garden on Opening Day, April 21st, 2012 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to choose your plot, sign the garden contract and provide payment. We will be hosting Global Youth Service Day during this time as well, so you can see local youth in action to get the garden ready! If you are unable to attend the opening event contact Gretchen Boyer gretchenb@montanaacademy.com.
  4. Garden Fees: Individual plots are 4’X8’ (we recommend 2 4’X8’ plots for families of 3-4) and cost $35 for the season. The garden season is from May – November and the money from the rental goes toward upkeep & supplies for the garden as well as trainings for garden patrons and garden events.
NTF staff will provide four trainings throughout the summer – in coordination with FVCC’s Department of Continuing Education and just in the garden. Garden participants have the option of signing up for summer workshops/training as part of their garden membership fee.

Things to look forward to this 2012upcoming season:
  • Less rain! (I hope...)
  • 'plot-lucks' and family friendly community garden events
  • Seed/Start exchange
  • New tools & a new compost system
  • Additional workshops (included as part of your garden fee) - including square foot gardening, composting, seed saving, and food preservation

  • More kids in the garden working on a variety of community service projects
  • Master Gardener volunteers - available to answer questions, help with planting, and assist (as needed) with watering and garden maintenance!
  • Communal flower & herb beds

Excess Produce Donations:

NTF encourages garden participants to grow and distribute produce to local food banks.  NTF will support there efforts by collecting excess produce during June through September to donate to food shelves and meal programs in our communities.  Grow-a-row and help feed your community!
