Local food has moved from a niche idea to mainstream America, and for good reason. Cities and small towns around the country are benefiting from the rebirth of farmer's markets and the growth of the sustainable food movement. Along with this growth has come an explosion of resources and websites dealing with all areas of local food. As a small organization, we don't have the ability to reinvent the wheel and track down every new piece of news, but we know of folks who do! AERO - this grassroots Montana organization has been active in Sustainable Agriculture and Alternative Energy for over 30 years. Their new Facebook page is especially useful for keeping up-to-date on local and national news relative to ag and energy.
NewWest.net - This Missoula-based news organization has a page dedicated to food and agricultural issues specific to Montana as well as national topics.
National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition - Information on national grant opportunities, USDA news and programs, regulations, and all things related to sustainable agriculture.

Rooted: A new generation of farmer and ranchers in Montana - This site is the result of a graduate project by Beth Gibson at the University of Montana. Aside from having beautiful photos and stories, the Resources page has a heavy emphasis on helping new farmers.
Sustainable Food and Bioenergy Systems - An exciting new college degree program offered by Montana State University in Bozeman, MT focused on sustainable food systems, sustainable crop production, Agroecology, and sustainable livestock production.
The Greenhorns - Based out of NY, this creative site and blog has a vast amount of inspiring information to assist new farmers get their start.
